Content Is King

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

I used to work for this really annoying company that stated “Content Is King”. I always thought it was such an cheesy phrase. Now I’m uttering it on a bike-related website… I’m really sorry. What gives? I even made up this United Colours of Benetton ad to get your attention to the situation at hand (a piece of marketing genius, I know):

The collective *we* (thats… you.) are an interested bunch, with a lot of different knowledge. What would be nice, is if it were plastered up here for the rest of the world to read about it. In a nutshell, I’m putting a call out for content: If you’ve got a story, a review, an idea, or a howto – the frontpage is a cosy warm place for it to live. It also means you get a bunch of kudos and praise from everybody.

In fact, I think anybody who writes something for the frontpage will get a prize. I don’t know what it is yet, but I promise it will be more than broken locknut. Contact me here!

New site!

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

After faithful service, the old site has been sent to the bit bucket. The new site will allow for easy updates, and for others to easily add content about whats happening in their states etc. In time the photos & forums area will be styled in the new template. I hope you like the new site & please report any display issues.

The old one, for the sake of posterity:

Chainring Transit Authority

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

P. Lynn Miller of CTA was kind enough to answer my forum calls for a cheap 18th cog with “hey, we’re making them, want to run one for free?” How could an offer like that be turned down? I’ll admit to being slightly dubious about running “beta” hardware; only because the thought of tearing the teeth off on a heavy lockup was not a pretty one. It has however held up nicely without any problems. Sound-wise it pretty much matches my previous Dura-Ace.
CTA are proposing two versions of the cog; one standard (the one I have below), and their bling version, which is polished (and slightly more expensive). Running 16t through to 20t in 1/8th width.

Release date this year, prices still unknown; keep an eye out for the only (?) Australian-made street track cogs.
