2008 Australian Singlespeed Nationals

Monday, March 17th, 2008

If you are in the Hobart area during April, make sure to get along to this event. This year it’s being put on by the blokes over at Bottles and Chains, and from the description looks like it’s going to be a hoot.

Alchemy Goods - Messenger Bags

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

I won’t bore you with my commentary, but nice bags:

This is the original Alchemy Goods messenger bag built with recycled materials lying around the apartment. Of course the model you get is constructed in the workshop, but it retains the unique qualities that made it famous. The Messenger is made using environmentally friendly materials and it definitely stands out in a crowd. But there’s no sacrifice in form for function. Perfect for bike messengers, students or anyone else with a lot of stuff to carry around. You’ll regret buying any other bag.

Note that ‘recycled goods’ means old inner tubes. Nice. At $148usd or $182aud, it seems reasonably priced too. Check out their Messenger Bags.

Handmade bike for N*ke

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

The Wilson Brothers, a UK group in charge of making beautiful objects for large companies, have whipped up this gorgeous piece of work to be exhibited at the Dover Markets in London. Note the video of the build at the end of this post. I’ll be in London at the end of this month. With any luck the exhibition will have started…

Figure 8 Track Racing

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

Hopefully future events on this piece of equipment will involve backwards figure eights. HumanPoweredRollercoaster.

“The Human Powered Rollercoaster, HPR, is a velodrome with a vastly different twist; an amazing and dynamic figure-eight cycling track built for the new version of urban Alley-Cats racing.

The only true portable velodrome of its kind, the over/under figure-eight wooden track is 180 feet long, 64 feet outside diameter curved sections, 16 feet riding width and 410 feet (125 metres) riding length with 27 degree banking and a 9 feet bridge height.”
