67mm Bottom Bracket Shell

Hey quick question - the old Lennie Rogers frame I got from Manbau has had it's bottom bracket faced at some stage back in the day, so it's now only 67mm wide instead of 68.

I've just put a Shimano UN54 in, but being made to fit 68mm, and when it's fully tightened it still doesn't clamp down on both sides of the shell. This will be my everyday bike, so I want a weatherproof BB. I can't really see a way of modifying the plastic threaded cup thing, unless I can substitute it for one that happens to be 1mm different.

What's the standard fix? Can you get a 1mm spacer/washer that would do the job? I'm pretty sure the thing will start moving if it's not clamped tightly on the shell.

I don't know if there is a standard fix but a 1mm washer on the inside lip of the drive side cup could help try it and let us know

I've had pretty successful results using bottom bracket shims. They come in a couple of different thicknesses from memory, and a 1mm shim should be a good fix.

Agree ... shim it (drive side) if you can. Actual shell widths on old bikes commonly vary a bit from the norm even if not faced. Sometimes you can cludge a good fit using varied loose cups and axles but a sealed cartridge BB means less options. There are cartridge BB options that allow for tightening from both ends (Miche, older Campy) that may be a help here.
