Your knowledge of esoteric children's bikes is astounding.

Google is my friend, or in this case the font of all knowledge.

I am thinking of taking Mr 2.5 for a ride and camp along the Lilydale-Warburton rail trail in the first week of December. Does anyone have tips for a suitably apprehensive dad going for a first time bike-camp with a toddler? (First time with the toddler in a tent, actually.)

Of course, if anyone else is keen to take a weekend and escape the Christmas silliness, we'd welcome company.

Just stay at the Alpine Retreat Hotel in Warburton. Rooms are cheap and they have like 13 different types of parma, plus other pub standards. Coffee in the morning at Little Joe, Three Sugars, or Cog.

It's a great trip. Good for tykes and first time bike tourists alike

We have a bail-out option in that a friend lives in Warburton East, so worst-case scenario would see me bundling everything back into the bike trailer and going 3kms down the path to a bed and a sympathetic ear.

I've done a couple of bike trips, but none solo before.
Managed Ballarat to Bendigo via Maldon over two days with a friend for her first time cycle touring. That was pretty cool.
I also did a more bikepacking focused trip of Hursty - Toolangi - Warburton - Lilydale over two days. Was meant to be four, but the rain set in hard and we called it, didn't fancy riding around the Ada Tree etc in heavy wet.

    My tips would be

    i) pay the extra for the river site, I reckon it's much nicer and also quieter
ii) if just going for a night don't bother taking food and just go into town for dinner
iii) have an audiobook/podcast/kids sleeping meditation on the phone
iv) also have a book/kindle/podcast for yourself
